Josie's (almost) attic adventure

Remember a while back, when the heating guy was in our house and he went up in the attic?

Josie decided she was curious about the pull-down stairs that go into the attic. But Dad was right there and only let her get a few paws on the ladder (and got this picture).

Well, the other day Dad was hanging the light fixture he bought for Mom (that HUGE box that arrived a few weeks ago). Since the lamp hangs from a long cord, and Dad wanted it closer to the ceiling, he was up in the attic seeing if he might need to pull some cord up into the attic (he couldn't, and didn't need to, anyway). But when he started to come down the ladder, guess who was more than halfway up? Josie! If not for some insulation on the backside of the ladder door, I'm pretty sure she would have been right up there with Dad. It's a good thing Mom was there to get Josie because I'm not sure that Dad would have been able to get down with her on the ladder (he's not always too coordinated, so we're just happy he didn't break his neck, or fall through the attic). Josie has always been the most daring of the four of us, and she just proved it again on Saturday.

Hey, guess what -- I found Chey last Friday! I've been looking and looking and finally found Chey! Of course, because of the SOPA Black(cat)out, Huggy Bear got his picture featured. But that's OK, because I got the credit. Plus it was a great river otter picture of HB that Chey used, so I don't mind one bit. Can't wait until this Friday to search again.

Since I'm not confident about blacking out the blog in protest of SOPA, I'm instead giving you a black-cat-out -- lots of pictures of Huggy Bear. I hope the overall protest across the internet helps raise awareness of this shortsighted bill that, under the guise of privacy protection, gives power and influence to large companies and has the potential to stifle the voice of the individual on the web. So here is our black-cat-out... just say no to SOPA (you can say no to SOAP too, because we're cats and don't need soapy baths).

Anti-SOPA

I know a lot of websites are blacking out Wednesday in protest of SOPA. I support the blackout, but don't know how to black out my blog -- my luck, I wouldn't be able to undo the blackout, and that would make me sad. So in solidarity of the blackout, I will nap all day because with my eyes shut everything is blacked out.

(If you don't know what SOPA and PIPA are a big deal, I think Cory Doctorow sums it up pretty well...)

Oysters

Mom and Dad went to an oyster boil a few weekends ago. It was an unseasonably warm weekend and a perfect day for it.

Look at these things. Aside from being steaming hot, I have no idea how a cat is even supposed to get one open to get to the goodness inside. I don't know who even thought to pry one of these things open and see if it tasted good. But Mom and Dad said they were good. They had shrimps too. And no, they didn't bring us any at all.

Mom and Dad are now doing lights and sound for the musical John & Jen at Mom's theatre. It is fun for them, but takes them away from us some. So we have to be persistent about getting attention from them when they are home. Maggie's new "look at me" technique is headbutting the monitor when Dad is on the computer and turning it away from Dad so he has to pay attention to her. It's not his favorite trick of her's (but he does think it is funny when she accidentally opens the CD drive). I'm still partial to laying on the mouse -- works every time!

Maine's state cat

Who knew? Since I'm part Maine Coon, that means I am part of the state cat of Maine. I guess that makes sense, but I never really thought about it. Thanks KibbleKat for that little tidbit of knowledge.

Cold and windy night

I started to say it was a dark and windy night, but night is always dark. But it was cold and windy. Well, cold for us -- down in the upper 20s (which I know is the high right now for some of our friends). I like this colder weather because I get to snuggle up with Mom in the mornings after Dad leaves for work. We like to try to pin Mom in to bed so she can't get up and go to work. Some days work better than others. I'm pretty optimistic about today!

Josie and the big box

Josie was very excited about the big box in the house.

It was a box inside a box. How cool is that?

The box was so big that the flap rested against one of the chairs in the parlor.

Look at Josie sitting in the flap. She really wanted to stay up there, but Dad was pretty sure it would go at any moment. Unfortunately, the box is now sitting by the road waiting to be recycled. I really wish we could have found a space for this box, but it really is almost its own room.

Giant box

We had a giant box delivered to the house the other day. Dad had ordered Mom a new light fixture for the upstairs hall from the Gilt website. It's a cool pendant lamp (30x12). (Here's a link to what it looks like, but don't look at the price because Dad did not pay that at all.) Dad is going to hang it where the light fixture is over the stairs right now. It will look really nice there, although that now means that Dad will have to change the other light fixtures to something more modern. (Can you say IKEA trip?) Personally, I think Mom is trying to kill Dad, since this project will combine a ladder, stairs and electricity.

The shade is big and fragile for shipping, so it came in a HUGE box, with a wooden frame inside the box, then another box inside the frame. We really wished the box could have stayed in the house. All four of us could have hung out in that box and not even touched each other (although I'm pretty sure Maggie would have pounced someone pretty quickly). Dad did get some pictures of Josie on the box that hopefully will get uploaded tonight. Mom and Dad have been back at the theatre at night helping with another show (it has nothing to do with cats, so I don't know why they keep going). If Dad survives, we'll also post pictures of the new light once it is up.

Secret Paws pictures

We received our Secret Paws gift about a week and a half ago, but Mom and Dad made us wait to open it until mid-week last week. We got some amazing gifts from Sparkle the Designer Cat! We got nip mice, and nip sticks and sardines and Greenies, and best of all, a copy of Sparkles book!

Secret Paws!

We got to open our Secret Paws package last night -- it was from Sparkle the Designer Cat! We really got fixed up good -- we got a copy of her book, some treats, mice and nip toys -- all kinds of great stuff. I'll be posting pictures soon ... we have so many great pictures of us going nuts over all the great stuff we got. But the desktop computer has been fussy lately, and sometimes doesn't want to wake up after hibernating, and sometimes doesn't want to boot up right, and we think it needs to be looked at by someone who knows more than Dad does. So the pictures didn't get uploaded last night. So instead, here are some pictures from two weekends ago when our little friends Gracie and Clara Ann visited and gave Josie and Maggie treats.

The girls walk with quick heavy feet which makes us want to run away quickly (which is why Huggy Bear and I aren't getting treats) but Josie is a little braver, and was willing to eat treats from Gracie's hands.

And wherever there are treats, there is Maggie. Once she saw that Josie was getting treats she was right there to get some from Clara Ann. The girls think it is so funny the way we eat treats straight from their hands.

It's a little blurry, but I love little Clara Ann's smile in this picture. I think all four girls in this picture were having fun.

Secret Paws is here!

Our Secret Paws package showed up the other day, and you know what ... it's still in the box! I think we've been good, but we're having to wait. Maybe we'll get to open it tonight.

Mom should be putting our package in the mail to our Secret Paws today. We were pitching such a fit to play with it that Dad had to put it in Mom's car last night so we would calm down.

We had a stranger in the house on Saturday. The HVAC for the upstairs was acting up and the fan wouldn't turn off, so Mom and Dad had to cut the power to the heat, which wasn't all that great during the cold nights, except for the extra snuggling that Mom and Dad get from us. Fortunately the heat downstairs still works, and heat rises.

Well, when the stranger was in the house he opened a door in the closet ceiling that we didn't even know was there. There's a ladder that goes up there.

Josie is very brave, and considered going up. She even got a paw on the second step. Dad was right there with her and wasn't about to let her get much father up. There's just too much she could get in to. But then the guy started to come down and he made a ton of noise, and that was about the end of Josie's investigating.

They were back again today to put in the part that they had to order, so hopefully the heat is working again -- just in time for it to be 76 degrees.

There's another super cool orange-colored Jasper cat out there ... Ginger Jasper ... and naturally I've been a big fan ever since I discovered his blog. Well, it turns out that he is at the vet and struggling with some bad news. So please send all the extra purrs you have to him in hopes that the treatment works and that his kidneys can get going right again. Mom and Dad are particularly sensitive to this, since this is what sent their first cat Fluffy to the bridge many years ago. Ginger Jasper, get well soon and get back home to your beans -- they need you there!

Thankful Thursday

I think it is only fitting that Thanksgiving should fall on a Thankful Thursday. There's so much to be thankful for. First off, we are thankful for our Mom and Dad because they gave us love and homes and good food. And we're thankful that they love us even when Dad is trying to troubleshoot the computer and I stand in front of the monitor, or when we bite Mom's calf when she's getting ready in the morning because we want a treat. We are also thankful for each other, because life is better with siblings, even if we hiss and chase each other sometimes.

And we are super thankful for our amazing Catblogosphere friends. I can't imagine how empty our lives and the internet would be without you.

I'm also thankful for a comfy pillow to rest my head on.

Pooping on the pillow

OK, I'm telling on myself here, but it's too funny. You know how we reserve the right to poop on the bean's pillow when they misbehave or don't spoil us properly. Well, last night I got a little poop on my tail furs. And like a good boy I hopped up in bed to let Dad know he needed to clean me, which he did. He even scooped the litter box in the middle of the night. But he kept smelling poop. That's when he rolled over and realized there was a spot right there on his pillow. I didn't mean to do it -- it just happened. Or maybe it's a preemptive punishment, because I doubt they're saving us any Thanksgiving turkey.

Apparently there's still no sign of Kimo. I'm really worried for him, and his people. But I keep thinking back when Luna returned after 40 days, or our neighbors de-clawed indoor cat who was out in the woods behind their house for weeks and just came home one day. Thank you for the purrs for Mom and Uncle Billy. Mom made it home safely and we've been snuggling with her and giving her loves. Mom's Uncle Billy passed away Monday evening. Mom was thankful that she got to go up and spend some time with him and was glad she could help out her cousin so she could spend some time with her dad with less on her mind.

Mom came home from Ohio on Monday to our cable and internet being out. She was very upset with the AT&T U-verse tech who was supposed to call her mobile phone yesterday so she could leave work and meet him for the service call, but instead called our home number and put it down as a "missed appointment." It's not Mom's fault he called the wrong number. So we still don't have internet or cable at home. But he should be there tonight. For their sake, I hope it's a different tech today than yesterday or he's gonna get an ear full after the work is done. It's a shame when a good product is tainted by poor customer service. No one even said, "we're sorry he called the wrong number." On the plus side, Mom and Dad have been watching Arrested Development on DVD since they had no live tv.

Please send purrs for Mom. She has been up in Ohio this weekend with her uncle and his family. He is ill and on hospice care and Mom went to say goodbye. So please purr for Uncle Billy and that he is out of pain and at peace. Mom will be on the road home Monday. We've missed her, but are so glad that she could be up there to help out.

Dad brought Josie upstairs to get loved on and Josie found her way over to the cat bed. Josie has been spending most of her time curled up on the couch downstairs, so it was a treat for Dad to see her curled up in the cat bed.

Maggie even came over and loved on Josie for a minute and licked her head. But since Maggie usually wrassles with Josie this quickly turned into hissing and growling from Josie.

Vicious Elk?

Mom and Dad drove home from Tennessee through the Smoky Mountains and stopped to take some pictures along the way. Mom was hoping to see some bears and had her camera ready. Well, she didn't see any bears, but she did see this...

A vicious elk! I figure since deer are vicious, then this elk is surely vicious too. Dad got out of the car to take some pictures because the battery died in the big camera so he had to get a little closer. The ranger said they should stay 50 yards away, but everyone was about 30 yards away. Close enough, if you ask me.

There was a field full of them at the feet of the mountains, but only the only big male with the rack.

Isn't he magnificent? I wouldn't want to head-butt him.

This is Mom and Dad at the football game. They look happy even though the wrong team was winning (Mom Paula's team). It's just nice to be surrounded by 100,000 friends for a football game.

Mom and Dad love the drive through the Smokies. Dad climbed down to the creek and took this picture with a long exposure to give the cool water effect. He's pretty happy with this one, and lucky to not have a lot of motion because he didn't have a tripod. It looks cold to me.

They also saw a squirrel and took a picture of it for us, because you know how much we all like to keep an eye on the squirrels. The last time Dad tried to take a picture of a squirrel at a park it jumped at him, so Dad was sure to stay back this time.

I know it is a curious time, but we don't want anycat wandering off, especially on a night like tonight. I suggest snoopervising from a safe window. This is one of my favorite holidays because it is an orange holiday and I'm a big orange cat.

Mom and Dad went up to their old stomping grounds in Knoxville, TN, to watch their beloved football team lose last weekend, but they still had a good time. They got back late last night and were pooped. All four of us piled in bed with them because we missed them so so so much. They're not going anywhere again for at least a few weeks, so that's good.

They drove home through the Smoky Mountains and got some really good pictures. Their really good camera's battery died toward the end, but fortunately they had a backup camera because they came across a field full of elk. Dad got some good pictures, but he sure wishes the better camera had a little power left in it. It's the first time the battery has actually run down, so you know it was a good weekend. The pictures will follow soon.

Seventh Blogoversary!

Oh my goodness ... did I really catnap through my own blogoversary?!? How does that happen? Yes, my beans have been selfish and have been hogging the computer and not helping me blog. Scooby, Shaggy and Scout hit it right on the head when they said my beans had been slacking. All this week I had a feeling that there was something I was forgetting, too.

Thanks for all the nice blogoversary comments. I can't believe I've been at this for seven years now (as of 10/25). Sure, I know I haven't been as active as I once was, and I plan on changing that. I was just reflecting that other day on some of the wonderful cat friends who aren't around anymore -- specifically Buzzerbee and Meep, and Bonnie Underfoot. You have all touched our lives more than you probably understand, and offer a welcoming escape from life's wear and tear. Thank you all.

By the way, yesterday was Dad's 10 year anniversary of graduating from chiropractic school and he forgot that too, so it's not just us...

And to make up for missing my own blogoversary, he's some pictures:

Maggie found both the cat bed and a ray of sunshine at the same time. Really, what more could a cat ask for?

We had sticky little people in the house last weekend with heavy feet and grabby hands. All they wanted to do was to love on us, and all we wanted to do was run the other way. I got hissy, which is not like me at all. Josie was actually very tolerant, and even let the four-year-old try to carry her. (She looked like Penelope, the little girlfriend of Pepe-le-Pew, being squeezed and over-loved.) This is Josie enjoy the peace and quiet after Gracie and Clara Ann left. We love the extra treats we get, but appreciate the silence more.

Halloween is coming up. Everyone be careful with the trick-or-treaters out there.

Tabby Tuesday

We had a perfect box by the window in Mom and Dad's room. Sure, it was getting pretty ratty and broken down. But that's when they are the best. But Mom decided we needed a cat bed there instead.

Maggie was the early adopter of the cat bed. I would tip toe around it at first. It did take the spot of my favorite box, after all. But I did take a nap in it this weekend and it's really not all bad. Mom is having issues with it now, because Maggie is choosing to sleep in the cat bed at night instead of curled up with Mom.

Maggie loves her tent from IKEA. It's supposed to be a tent that we share, but in all honesty Maggie kind of claimed it from day one. I don't think IKEA carries pet items anymore, and that's just a shame because all of our favorite tents came from IKEA.

Maggie was ready for her closeup that day.

You really can't beat lounging in a good tent. She blends in nicely with all the camo. This tent is in the office, so when she's not sharing the seat with Dad, or climbing all over the desk and head-butting Dad as he tries to type or use the mouse, she'll lounge in her tent.

On a side note, I tried to use Blogger on Dad's Android phone and couldn't get it to work. I could log in, but when I tried to touch the field for the body of the post it would never let me actually enter any text. Has anyone else had this issue? And does anyone use the Blogger app? The app got poor feedback so we just stayed away from it. It would be nice to be able to post on the go. Thanks for your input.

A cat that is not a McKitten-Cat! Dad said this cat visits his office and was in the parking lot and needed some love, but still ... And then to give him a spot on our Flickr stream, too. Just so long as Dad washes his hands real good and doesn't start sharing our treats with him, I guess it's OK.

Stinky Goodness Cake

We had our traditional Stinky Goodness Cake for Josie and Huggy Bear's birthday back in September. They turned seven, so they had a 7 cake...

Huggy Bear was first to check out the cake.

But it wasn't long before Josie and Maggie joined in. We were all very good and shared the cake on one plate. Well, except me -- I got my own.

This was a different Stinky Goodness, and it hit the spot. Maybe we liked it even more because we've been eating healthy, light food, so to have some full-flavor Stinky Goodness tasted so good. How good was it, you ask?

It was so good, it was lick your nose good! Thanks again for all the birthday wishes. I can't believe it is October already! I can't wait until we get to help Mom and Dad carve pumpkins!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes, for Huggy Bear and Josie last week, and those who saw it was Dad's yesterday. I started to post something, but then Dad hogged the computer and Mom was busy working and wouldn't share her thumbs (I wish I had thumbs) so nothing go posted. But Dad is 39 now -- really pushing 40. He told Mom he wants them to jump out of a plane next year for his birthday. I'm not sure how I feel about that. But he has plenty of time to forget or chicken out.

Happy Birthday Josie and Huggy Bear!

Happy Birthday to Josie and Huggy Bear! I really can't believe my brother and sister are seven years old! Time goes by so fast. I feel like I was older when they came to live with me, but I was only two. That seems so little now. I have been blessed to have such good siblings, who are nice and fun to play with, and supportive. We hardly bicker at all (although we like to give Josie a hard time).

Josie was so tiny when she came to live with us. She's hardly bigger than Mom's slipper here.

It's hard to remember Huggy Bear being this little (or his tummy not dragging...)

Huggy and Josie used to snuggle when they were little. They don't snuggle that much anymore, but weren't they sweet?

This is more of their "laying together" technique now.

This is probably how they'll spend most of their birthday ... enjoying a sunny spot. But hopefully we'll get open windows tonight.

And you know there's going to be stinky goodness cake! We'll get those pictures up soon.

Maggie Monday: Window time

Oh the weather is getting so nice. We actually had the windows open the other day. It was wonderful! But when the windows are closed and the blinds are down, you have two choices:

Stay low and look from under the blinds...

or get behind the blinds and check things out.

I guess you can always pull the blinds apart. Maggie does that, too, but not in front of the camera (no evidence of the crime).

Furs at work

Although we've never been to Dad's work before, he discovered some of our furs in his office the other day. Unknown to him, we've been sneaking our furs on all his stuff, so that it will be deposited at his work when he gets there. It's all part of the master plan!

Some were concerned that the tail from the new pink mouse disappeared so quickly. Well, Josie did not eat it, but she did bring it to Dad tonight. Maybe it was in response to him packing again. I think she may have been offering it so he would stay. But Mom and Dad have a family reunion to go to in Portsmouth, Ohio. And Dad's parents and sister are coming too. We'd go too, but the drive is way too long for us.

In rememberance

We learned over the weekend that Edsel's Mom had passed away from brain cancer. It is so sad a heartbreaking. Edsel was one of the first cat bloggers we followed, back when there we so few of us that I could visit every cat blog I knew about in 20 minutes. I noticed a while back that she had stopped posting, then we heard she was sick. It makes us so sad. We get connected through the Cat Blogosphere with so many kind and amazing people. But we know she is at peace, and that Edsel and Casey are in good hands with their dad.

Packing?

Paula, Sweet Praline's Mom, got some very bad news about one of the new kittens who was due to come and live with her this weekend. Beignet, the little boy-cat, had an adverse reaction to a vaccine and went to the bridge. At least he's in good company with Sweet Praline. But it was such a short life, but full of love. Our hearts just break for Mom Paula and Truffle. Purrs to everyone out there today. It's been a tough week for a lot of us.

Hunting new pink mouse

We got our new pink mouse in the mail the other day from Caren and Cody.

Huggy Bear had a few seconds to inspect it before Josie claimed the fuzzier one.

As you can see, Josie wasted no time grabbing the mouse and running off with it. So quick she almost missed the picture.

She took it downstairs to whap it around a little.

And then she pounced it real good. She was really after the tail.

Maggie wanted a turn, but I don't think she ever got a try.

This is a very happy Josie with a new fuzzy pink mouse.

The next morning the mouse was back upstairs, in one of Dad's shoes, minus a tail. We haven't seen the tail since.

Thankful Thursday

Thanks so much to Caren and Cody from Cat Chat! They read my post about our pink mouse and were so kind to send us two new pink mice. They have been a big hit. Josie wasted no time claiming the fluffier of the two. She grabbed it in her mouth and carried it downstairs where she could hunt it in piece. She tossed it around and pounced it and threw it -- all the things that pink mice are best at. We have pictures, but they'll be up another night. Thanks again Caren and Cody! We love our new pink mice.

Black Cat Appreciation Day

It's Black Cat Appreciation Day, so we're appreciating Huggy Bear today. He is such a sweet and loving little brother and loves to purr for Mom and Dad and try to steal their sandwiches.

This is how you can find Huggy Bear most of the time.

See, he loves to sit with his feet hanging off the edge of stuff.

He might be a big boy, but he is a super sweet snuggler, and he has a tiny voice, and his favorite color for toys is pink.

When he was a kitten he was little, but now he's almost as big as me. I really can't remember him being this small.

Pink mouse

Target used to have this awesome pink mouse toy. It was our favorite of all the mouse toys we've ever had. Recently pink mouse had to go away. We had loved it so much that we were getting the stuffing out of it and that just wasn't safe.

Here's Huggy Bear in a fuzzy picture with pink mouse. I had no idea this was from 2007 until I went to get it.

Josie and Huggy Bear played with pink mouse the most, hunting it and loving it to pieces (literally). We really wish Target still carried pink mouse. Searching the internet for "pink mouse" doesn't really get you very far. We've gotten other mouse toys since then, and they're OK, but they aren't like pink mouse.

International Cat Day

Pet Photo Contest

So I got an email through my Flickr account about a pet photo contest. At first I thought they wanted a picture of my Mom and Dad, but then I realized they were talking about me. According to the website: "MyApartmentMap is looking for the ultimate pet friendly pad in America. Send us photos of your pet friendly place and you'll have a chance to win a $1,000 prize. A $250 donation will also be made to the animal shelter or rescue group of your choice. The winner will be determined by online voting so tell your friends!" There are only five entries so far -- good odds, really. But I wanted to share this with my other cat friends. I'm thinking of submitting a picture, but I want to find a good one.

Getting back to normal

Mom and Dad have wrapped up their play at the theatre, which means we are getting back to normal-ish. Hopefully that also means that I'll get to upload some pictures. It'll be nice to have Mom and Dad home in the evenings again so we can cuddle and watch tv.

On the hunt again/food protest

A while back we were very fortunate and won some Science Diet Hairball Formula cat food from The Creek Cats. We really liked it, and there were noticeably fewer hairballs, which Mom and Dad liked. So Dad went to the pet store to get some. Admittedly, he had a little sticker shock when he realized we were given probably $80 worth of cat food to try. But he said he loves us, and bought us a big $33 bag of cat food. But Dad thought he'd tricky and get us the Light version (apparently two or three of us could stand to lose a pound). Well, Dad -- we don't like the Light version. Seriously, he's not rushing out to get the light version of his food, and I've seen the direction of his graph on the Wii Fit... I'm just saying.

So today Mom was home not feeling 100 percent. She let us go play in the garage while she was resting. Next thing she knows there's Huggy Bear tearing through the bedroom and going into the bathroom. Right behind him is Josie and Maggie. She's seen this before, and didn't like where it was heading. When Mom looked in the bathroom, sure enough, HB had brought in another skink. He had deposited it right at our food bowl, I suspect as a sign of protest to the light food. I imagine the symbolism: see Dad, even this dead lizard won't eat this food -- no matter how good for us you say it is; or maybe, how about some lizard for dinner?

I don't know what HB is fussing about, Dad's given him ham the past two mornings while making his lunch. But me, I'm getting hungry.

Not so vishus deer

Here is a herd of deer that Mom and Dad saw at the beach. I didn't even know that deer liked to go to the beach. Mom and Dad said they were very nice deer, and came and asked for treats. I'd still stay away if it were up to me.

Back from vacation

Mom and Dad went on vacation and I didn't even get a chance to invite cats over for a house trashing party (well, let's be honest -- Mom and Dad left in a whirlwind so the house was pretty trashed to begin with). But they are back now. They went to a place called Fripp Island near Hilton Head. It is a populated island, but also a nature preserve so they had deer everywhere, but not the vicious kind. Aunt Tiff actually fed one deer by hand. The deer was named Number 12, which I think is a silly name, but Aunt Tiff was pretty excited either way. Mom and Dad also saw alligators like Daisy is always talking about, and they got to see a baby sea turtle finish its final 20 feet from the nest to the ocean (which doesn't seem like a lot, unless you are a baby sea turtle with baby legs). But they didn't bring us anything back -- no turtles, no non-vicious deer, not even the baby alligator they saw (OK, they can keep the gator). Mom did try to get us some shrimp, but the seafood market she went in stunk like bad seafood and she left quickly and bought some Wendy's instead. But we don't need souvenirs because we got to snuggle all over Mom last night while Dad was at the theatre making sure Cinderella's mic was on at the right times. (I understand there are four white mice at the theatre, so I made need to go investigate.) But I think the best part of getting Mom and Dad back from the beach is smelling all their beach-smelling stuff.

Mom runs a local community theatre, and is producing Cinderella that opens on Friday. This is very exciting for Mom and Dad (Dad's running their mics), but it's not too exciting for us. Mom and Dad are getting home too late, and too tired, to give us proper attention. I can't wait until Saturday so we can snuggle with them and make them stay in bed.

My favorite box

I know it's not Box Day anymore, but I had to show off my favorite box. This box ended up on the cedar chest in Mom and Dad's room and I just won't let them get rid of it. I scoot it around so it's right under the window.

Here I actually have my head under the window sill -- it was more comfortable than it might look. You know how we are, we'll sleep however and wherever.

Sometimes Maggie will bite me and steal some box time, but she knows it's just borrowed time. This is clearly my box. It's even broken down into my shape.

Josie wants some attention

So this is Josie's ploy -- when Dad is getting his shoes on (or pretty much doing anything else) she will roll onto her back and ask for belly rubs. She's horrible about it, and shameless. And once Dad gives in, she likes to move just out of his reach to make him work for it just a little. This is how she tries to keep him away from work or the gym. I wish it was more successful. But isn't she just too cute. (Spoiled little sister...)

Mom and Dad are growing vegetables this year. It's the first time they've tried a garden. It doesn't sound too exciting to us, but they seem pretty happy with it. They planted a bunch of tomatoes -- Mom really likes tomatoes. A little while back they had two that were almost ready to pick, but then when Dad went to water the garden he noticed they were gone. Then this week there was another one that was almost ready, but last night Dad saw it was gone. Obviously there's something out there dining on Mom's delicious (?) tomatoes. We suspect the squirrels, because really if you are going to suspect someone it's best to start with the squirrels. Clearly, they're never up to any good. Too bad for the garden that we are indoor cats, because you know we'd be patrolling the heck out of the back yard and there would be no squirrels. In the meantime we'll be watching from the windows and Mom and Dad will be trying to figure out a way to actually get to eat a tomato.

Jealous of Dad

Dad got to visit with Praline's Mom twice this week, and we are so jealous. And Praline's Mom is visiting other cat bloggers too. We never get to visit anyone in person (in cat?) but that's mostly because we refuse to travel. But Dad told us the Praline's Mom is going to be getting some new kittens in September. We're very excited for her. We know she misses Praline even more than we do, so that will be a wonderful thing. And Dad even saw a sneak peek of the litter. (We're not jealous of kittens, though... don't want to share any more attention.)

Mancat Monday

Mom and Dad had a bunch of people over to the house on Saturday for Mom's birthday party. There was no stinky goodness cake, so we weren't very interested in it, which is a good thing because we were sent to the bathroom to hang out safely. The problem is this is the second time in the bathroom for us this week, with the delivery last Tuesday. Well, Josie and I were very agreeable to going in and hanging out. I love the sink anyway. Dad wrangled Maggie and brought her in. But he couldn't find Huggy Bear at all. After some searching and calling and shaking of treats, he looked under the bed and saw Huggy Bear. HB meeped at Dad in his little boy sheepish way. Dad put some treats out to try to entice HB out from under the bed but Bear was too smart for that. He'd reach one paw out as far as he could and drag the treat under the bed like Hungry Hungry Hippos. Eventually Dad moved the mattress off the bed and pulled HB out. Neither Dad nor Huggy were very happy to have to do it, but it was for the best and Bear got some good love afterward. To be such a big mancat, he's still just a little boy.

Happy Birthday Maggie! I can't believe my little sister is six years old -- she still acts like a kitten! I can't wait for birthday cake tonight. Today is also Mom's birthday -- Maggie gets to share it with her, but I don't think Mom wants a stinky goodness cake.

Dad got in trouble

So on Tuesday we had the delivery men coming. Well, Monday night Mom and Dad were watching tv and they both fell asleep on the couches. They slept until about 5:15 a.m. The whole time, we were playing in the garage with the door to the house cracked for us to come and go. We were very happy that they forgot the door was open. Well, when Mom woke Dad up at 5:15 and said they needed to go up to bed Dad called us in from the garage, saw Maggie, then turned his head to check on HB and Josie. Well, Maggie was quick and slipped back into the garage and Dad ended up locking her in the garage. Fortunately, the delivery guys called around 9 am and said they were on their way and Mom went to wrangle us. She was a little panicked when she couldn't find Maggie. Then she checked the garage and Maggie was crying at the door with a scared voice. (I think she was just working it for the attention.) So Dad got in trouble for that (although he says Maggie bears 10 percent responsibility).

The delivery guys took about three hours to get everything in and set up, but Mom and Dad did get a new washer and dryer, and range and microwave. So overall not too bad. But Mom switched to a gas range, and has told us to stay back from it. No singed cat hair here.

Josie was watching the washer work and she's not to sure about it. It's a front loader so we was watch things swish around. Mom and Dad must have watched it for several minutes. I don't get it, it's not like looking out the windows, or even the tv, but they seem pretty fascinated by it.

Visitors coming

We have visitors coming tomorrow -- well strangers in my book -- and Mom and Dad are pretty excited about it. Apparently some strange men will be taking out our range and microwave and washer and dryer and bringing in new ones. Mom and Dad were up late painting the laundry area. That part was OK once Dad had stopped making all the noise of moving stuff. We got to explore and sniff the opening for the dryer vent and snoopervise. But I'm not sure about people being in the house. Of course, we'll be locked in the bathroom, so let's hope they're quick.

My very own login

In all the years that I've been blogging I've piggy backed on Mom and Dad's gmail login for the blog. But today Dad was going to finally let me have my own login. He went to gmail and was doing all the steps, but then he goofed and put my birth year and Google denied it saying I'm too young. They don't realize I'm a cat and they need to adjust for my cat years. He cleared and tried again with an adjusted year but it got kicked out again. Dad's just going to wait and try again tomorrow. I'm so excited!

Oh, and look who's back... these guys keep coming back and hanging out on our porch. They better be glad we're inside cats. They get us all worked up and huffing and running from window to window!

Bug hunting

Josie has been on bug patrol lately. She's found two Palmetto bugs (aka roaches), this past week. It's not that the house is dirty, it's just a reality when you live in the South and it gets this hot this fast. So it's good that she's such a good huntress, and that Mom and Dad know when to listen to her. Now if only she'd let the rest of us join in the fun...

Major guilt trip

Josie broke Dad's heart this morning ... he was getting ready to leave for work and went in to the kitchen to get a big water and his lunch and Josie followed him in and begged for some pets. Dad gave her some love for a minute, then went in to the living room to get his keys and wallet. Josie followed and flopped in front of him for some more attention. Dad rubbed her tummy and skritched her chin, then headed to the door. Josie quickly followed and stared at Dad as he left, as if to say, after all that you're still going to leave? He wasn't happy to have to go to work, but unfortunately that's what has to be done. But he did tell Josie to go snuggle with Mom (that's always his instructions as he leaves for work).

The other day Mom and Dad came home and there was a huge box on the front porch. They'd kind of forgotten that we'd won the contest that The Creek Cats and Maggie May were having to win some Hill's Science Diet Hairball Formula cat food.

Honestly, we thought we'd get a small bag of the food to try, which we would have been very thankful for. But no, they really fixed us up. Look at the size of this box!

Josie helped Dad open it -- you can never be too sure about what's in a box.

And Maggie was quick to check it out too (and notice she's putting her stink on the box -- weasting no time to claim it as her's).

Huggy Bear had to see what all the fuss was about, then he saw -- FOUR large seven pound bags of cat food. Now we don't have to share!

And to make things even better we have this amazingly huge box to play with now, too!

The internet is working against us

So the other day Blogger was all goofy and wouldn't let us sign in, then last night Flickr wasn't responding. Dad was determined to upload a picture of either Huggy Bear or Josie. I know we've been lapse in posting pictures of any of us, but HB and Josie have really been missing from the pictures lately. And they deserve some face time too. So I've given Dad a goal: lots of pictures over the holiday weekend. Shoot, he's got an extra day with us. He should be able to take a couple that are worth uploading. Take the camera out of the bag and pay attention to us!

On the watch

No Wordless Wednesday

Well, it looks like I was just a little over confident yesterday expecting a picture -- I understand though. Mom and Dad didn't leave the theatre until 3 am finishing the grant that is due on Friday. Since Mom and Dad are going to their niece's graduation Mom had to have the grant done and turned in today. She was very very very stressed about it, but it is done and that's more important than a picture. But I know there are pictures ... they're just on the laptop that is packed up for the trip. Mom and Dad both got new phones yesterday (smarter than their old phones) so maybe they can post from the phones now.

I know there are pictures sitting on the camera. I remember Mom and Dad having a photo shoot with us. But they've been so busy -- Mom is trying to get a grant application finished for work (yuck!) and then they have to go to Mom's niece's graduation this week too. But on the plus side, that means that Dad will be clearing the pictures off the memory card for the trip, so I expect to have a Wordless Wednesday for tomorrow. Keep you paws crossed.

Bad storms

Oh we had horrible storms last night. About 1:30 in the morning the sky lit up with lightning and the house shook and the power went out. Dad scrambled out in the rain to move the car into the garage because he heard some hail falling. Today is our trash day and all our recycling got spread around the front yard, the trash can got knocked over spilling a bag of litter box scoopings, and one of Mom's potted plants was uprooted (although OK). Dad got it cleaned up this morning while Mom got ready in the dark. It's nights like this that make us so happy to have our Mom and Dad and a roof over our heads.

So I spilled some water last night, which isn't anything new. Usually it's one particular glass I don't like. But last night I decided to spill Dad's water. OK, it was water, which cleans up easily. But there's one problem -- I spilled it on Dad's phone. It's still working, except the keyboard. He has it in a bag of rice, so hopefully it will be back working right. My bad...

Feather Friday

Mom and Dad have a bird issue. They have hanging ferns on the front porch that the birds love to nest in. Mom and Dad try to discourage this, but the birds are just so determined. There was one fern that was dying because Mom and Dad didn't want to water the baby birds. Well, the baby birds were due to leave about the time that Mom and Dad were away last weekend. So when they got home they checked the nest and the babies were gone, but new eggs are already in the nest. So there's this dead fern that is driving them nuts now. So the question is, what to do next? If they move the fern to the side of the porch (about three feet at most), will the momma bird move with it? Can they put the nest in a new fern in the same spot? Can they put the eggs in a matching nest in the other fern (like I said, busy birds)? They don't want to harm the eggs, but they want a live fern hanging in that spot. Any advice is a help. Thanks!

Mom and Dad were in Atlanta last weekend for a very meaningful event -- they do the 5K MS Walk each year to support their dear friend Nikki. This big drooler wasn't with their group, but he was all-in with the walk -- he even had his own t-shirt.

It is a very stormy day today. Fortunately, so far, we've missed the crazy sever weather that has been hitting the southern states. But today we have lightning and thunder and a tornado watch until noon -- and that has made us four very nervous cats. It's days like today that I wish Mom didn't have to work so she could stay here and keep us comforted and calm. (Who am I kidding? I wish Mom didn't have to work ever.)

Maggie was quick to come up and try some of the cake too. Funny thing was, Maggie and Huggy Bear are usually the biggest pigs of us, but they didn't really care for this one. Josie and I liked it a lot, though.

Overall it was a good birthday. I could have taken some more Mom and Dad time, but there's really never enough Mom and Dad time. Thanks for all the birthday wishes. You all made me feel so loved and special.

Today is my birthday! I can't believe I'm turning nine years old. This is my last year in single digits. Mom and Dad said we'll have a party tonight with stinky goodness cake for us. I can't wait! It really seems like just yesterday that I was being adopted by Mom and Dad. I picked them the second I saw them and made sure that they knew it. The rest is history. And now that I think about it, I've spent more than half my life as a blogging cat -- wow! Thanks for sharing all this time with me.
